Accelerating Clean, Equitable (ACE) Manufacturing Project
The Accelerating Clean, Equitable (ACE) Manufacturing project is a partnership between the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) and several regional implementation partners, with funding from the MacArthur Foundation. ISC serves as a facilitator to holistically support and enable the development of a gender-equitable, sustainable, decarbonized ecosystem for small and medium enterprise (SME) clusters in India. We work with our partners to achieve this by creating collaborative platforms, building capacity to achieve net-zero commitments, and making various resources accessible. Our key objectives include:
- Facilitating decarbonization through the adoption of clean tech in the textile, automotive, and chemical manufacturing sectors and reducing GHG emissions by 500,000 MTCO2E savings in three years and 2.5M MTCO2E savings in 10 years.
- Increasing knowledge and decreasing barriers to building a gender-equitable, green workforce by green skilling 3000+ women workers.
- Designing and developing a scalable roadmap to advance a gender-equitable, green workforce and clean tech deployment at the subnational level.

Manufacturing is a major source of the increasing environmental pollution and generates a quarter of national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Indian SMEs are under increasing pressure to reduce their environmental impact by adopting cleaner technology, but they are unable to do so due to lack of locally available skilled personnel, expert advice, funds, and support. SMEs could fuel the growth of green jobs while minimizing their negative implications on public health and climate change, benefiting everyone in India.
ACE Manufacturing Training Series for Automotive SMEs
Automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are leading efforts to meet India’s net-zero commitments by 2070. To accelerate decarbonization efforts, ACE Manufacturing connects stakeholders across industries to share their knowledge of efficient solutions. The ACE training series brings together industry experts to discuss the latest practices towards equitable low-carbon operations to make India’s automotive component manufacturing industry profitable and sustainable. Subjects include:
- Sustainable value chain practices
- Ways to leverage climate finance
- Tools for integrating equity into decarbonization efforts
- Preparing for global competition in the just transition movement
