Snapshot of How Partnership for Resilient Community Planning Partners Have Responded to the COVID-19 Pandemic

This list is by no means conclusive, it lifts up only a handful of the innovative and community-based actions being taken by partners right now to provide essential support and services during the crisis. Please click the links to each organization’s website to directly support these initiatives.

Asian Pacific Environmental Network – Oakland, CA; Richmond, CA

Initiated Emergency Community Stabilization Fund to distribute mutual aid directly to Asian American immigrants in Richmond, CA and Chinatown experiencing the greatest need and highest vulnerability.

California Indian Museum and Cultural Center – Santa Rosa, CA

Surveyed their tribal community for an assessment of immediate needs in order to continue disseminating vital aid, health information and connecting to resources about the impact of COVID-19 on tribal and indigenous communities.

Providing local residents and families with community care kits filled with supplies and resources needed to stay healthy and safe during the COVID-19 crisis including masks, sanitizer, toilet paper, hygiene items, resource guides, and a needs survey to continue expanding their aid efforts.

Facilitating a hyper-local support network to safely share donated resources between neighbors including cleaning supplies, groceries, and food from local pantries.

Surveyed network of community leaders known as Neighborhood Champions to illuminate their most pressing needs in order to advocate for residents at the local and state level as well as facilitating distribution of aid and resources as they become available.

Responding to community needs by working with community partners to streamline and clarify available resources and points of contact for residents.

The People’s Justice Council – Birmingham, AL

Partnered with a local nonprofit focused on supporting the city’s homeless population to deploy hand-washing sinks around the city minimizing and preventing contamination among the homeless population.

Power52 Foundation – Baltimore, MD

Sharing information about available localized resources and relief aid from free groceries to funds for hourly workers and small businesses. Escalating efforts to train Solar PV Installers that may have been laid off due to the pandemic.

Developing a skill, talent and side hustle directory for neighbors to publicize their businesses and interests, a resource for credit and personal finance coaching, online business education classes and coaching, training for Neighborhood Connectors, and hiring a new Community Wealth Building Coordinator position.

Joined a broad coalition of Bronx-based community stakeholders, called The Bronx Community Relief Effort to raise $10 million to support effective, on-the-ground operations that are focused on meeting the most essential, immediate needs of The Bronx community.

Virginia Environmental Justice Collaborative – Richmond, VA

Continuing to advocate for the health and safety of low-income Virginians and communities of color whether it be enforcing utility moratoriums locally or rallying at the state level to oppose the construction of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline that would compound the disastrous economic and health effects already in play as a result of the coronavirus crisis.
