P4G today announced that ISC’s Energy Efficiency Alliance for Industry (E2 Alliance) has been selected for $1 million in scale-up funding. E2 Alliance is one of seven public-private partnerships joining the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 Initiative, that will provide a total of $4.5 million to fund and accelerate the partnerships.
Led by ISC and Energy Efficiency Services Limited, the E² Alliance will increase industrial energy efficiency in India by accelerating the adoption of more efficient motors in industry by tackling key barriers to energy efficiency uptake through manufacturer engagement, affordability and financing, and policy.
With P4G’s support, the E² Alliance expects to catalyze the procurement of 50,000 energy efficient motors (IE3 motors) and mobilize an estimated $35 million in private sector investment over two years. Replacement of India’s 15 million inefficient motors would save 65 billion kWh of electricity annually, reducing annual greenhouse gas emissions by 57 million metric tons—the equivalent to taking 12 million cars off the road annually—in addition to reducing harmful air pollution. The partnership plans to disseminate its model in Bangladesh, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam.
