WASHINGTON (August 6, 2021) – This week, the Institute for Sustainable Communities launched our climate change training academy for city officials and communities in Tampa Bay, Cincinnati, and Baton Rouge. Our Regional Collaboration for Climate Equity Solutions training academy will pinpoint inclusive policies and strategies that leave no one and no place behind.
Cities and towns on the frontline lead the fight against climate change. The Institute’s training academy combines local environmental approaches and equitable community development strategies. We’re linking the economic and social outcomes that are important to people. For example, developing green infrastructure or investing in local green energy that bring climate equity benefits not only in reducing greenhouse gases but in creating jobs.
“Advocating for equitable solutions and outcomes is a value of Baton Rouge and the region, so we are excited to be partnering with the Institute for Sustainable Communities in this program,” said Rachelle Sanderson, Region 7 Watershed Initiative Coordinator, Capital Regional Planning Commission of Louisiana. “Climate change is a catalyst to actualize equitable solutions through policies and programs and the conversations between the members of this group will add to ongoing conversations around climate equity not just in Region 7, but across Louisiana.”
