MONTPELIER, VT – December 1, 2016 – In an effort to support smart, green city solutions in India, the Institute for Sustainable Communities, with funding from the U.S. Department of State, is sending American renewable energy expert, Karl Rábago, to select Indian cities from December 4-14.
Mr. Rábago will meet with local, state and national government leaders, university students and academics to learn about current work on renewable energy in India. As the Executive Director of the Pace Energy and Climate Center at the Pace Law School in New York, Mr. Rábago is experienced in transforming electric generation and consumption. His over 25 years of experience in energy markets and climate policy will furnish his discussions with Indian leaders on renewable energy for smart, safe cities.
The goal of the exchange is to develop long-lasting professional relationships between Indian and American experts that will help accelerate smart city solutions in India. Five experts have already participated in this exchange – meeting on water, air quality, green city technology and urban transportation.
“Every city and community can play an essential role in developing and implementing innovative solutions to sustainability challenges,” said Mr. Rábago. “This exchange tour helps build the foundation for sharing our best creative renewable energy practices with others around the world.”
In addition to serving as Executive Director at Pace Energy and Climate Center, Mr. Rábago serves as Chair of the Board of the Center for Resource Solutions, sits on the board of the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) and runs his own consulting practice, Rábago Energy LLC. He was previously Commissioner of the Texas Public Utility Commission and has also worked for the U.S. Department of Energy, Austin Energy and Rocky Mountain Institute.
Mr. Rábago earned his Bachelor of Business Administration at Texas A&M University, a Juris Doctorate degree with honors from the University of Texas, and post-doctorate Master of Laws degrees in environmental and military law from Pace University School of Law and U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s School.
He will be visiting New Delhi, Jaipur, Ajmer, Allahabad and Visakhapatnam as part of the exchange.
