In the South Bronx, community strength and resilience are being built from the ground up. Our partner We Stay/Nos Quedamos—serving the poorest congressional district in the country—has taken bold steps to support their community during severe weather and flooding events.

Through ISC’s Partnership for Resilient Communties (PRC) and Dismantling Energy Inequity in Communties of Color (DEICC) projects, Nos Quedamos has worked to keep their neighborhood safe and connected during extreme weather by building community resilience hubs. Two hubs are already complete, and a third is on the way. Powered by renewable energy, these spaces will continue providing critical resources—like backup electricity, internet access, and safe gathering spaces—even if the main power grid goes down.

But these hubs are more than just emergency shelters. They’re vibrant community spaces that support everyday well-being, offering neighborhood gathering and educational spaces to build a more vibrant and climate-resilient community.

We Stay/Nos Quedamos shows us what it means to turn climate challenges into opportunities for resilience, safety, and health.
