India Country Director
Vivek Adhia is ISC’s Country Director in India, where he oversees broader strategy, programs and operations. He comes in with over 15 years of management, environment, and development sector experience, closely engaging with large corporates, key policymakers, and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
Prior to ISC, Vivek created and led World Resources Institute (WRI) India’s climate program and spearheaded private sector engagement as a member of the organization’s India executive team. He most notably helped build-up and operationalize climate mitigation initiatives including the India GHG Program (an industry-led partnership with more than 55 companies collaborating on greenhouse gas measurement and management), and the GHG Platform India (a civil society-led initiative to strengthen India’s national and state emission inventory processes). Among other things, Vivek helped put together global strategy on internal carbon pricing and supported initiatives on science-based targets, circular economy, and sustainable consumption.
Vivek has extensively consulted for the corporate sector, through his earlier employment with Deloitte, on climate strategy, carbon footprinting and abatement, water footprinting and environmental mapping, sustainable business practices, value chain engagement, market-based approaches, life-cycle assessments, renewable energy technologies and related areas – across chemical/process industries, cement and steel, oil and gas, telecommunications, aviation, power, real estate and municipal sectors.
He also led a work stream on collaborative innovation with the World Economic Forum, advancing cutting-edge thinking on bio-refineries, energy harnessing, and alternative materials. At the Forum, he helped mainstream innovation across the food-water-energy and carbon nexus by engaging with key leaders including chemical and energy multinationals.
Vivek has a Master in Business Administration from the University of Pune, Bachelor in Chemical Engineering from Mumbai University, and has pursued a certificate course in Management and Leadership Essentials from Harvard University.
