Elizabeth Knup is the head of the Ford Foundation’s China office, overseeing all grantmaking in the country from their office in Beijing. Over her distinguished career, she has worked to develop stronger ties between China and the rest of the world in the education, not-for-profit and business sectors. Before joining the Ford Foundation in 2013, Elizabeth served as Chief Representative of Pearson PLC, one of the world’s foremost education and publishing companies. She has lived in China continuously for 15 years and has served as a member of the board of numerous nonprofits seeking to build the capacity of civil society in China and around the world. These include the Capacity Building and Assessment Center and the Global Environment Institute. She formerly served on the Board of Trustees of the Lingnan Foundation, a supporter of education initiatives in southern China. Elizabeth earned a BA in political science from Middlebury College. She also holds an MA in Chinese studies from the University of Michigan.
